Photo0674As I grew up I always believed that the women’s beauty is in her hair; that was my first problem. This was the issue I had to deal with since high school to adulthood.

You see I have dark coarse, silky hair,I don’t need to put a relaxer on it in order to maintain it, that is the part I just got into terms with.

As the years goes by I had changed styles to try and find what best that works for me.
Second problem was accepting that in my family we have this kind of hair, which is kind of different from the others.

I love the song by India Irie -I am not my hair
especially when she says:
“I am not my hair
I am not this skin
I am not your expectations no no
I am not my hair
I am not this skin
I am a soul that lives within ”

You see I love my hair the way it is, it is part of me but I am not defined by my hair.I am what is inside

Never let your circumstances define who you are

30 Jul

I remember a day, back in 2002, when I asked my father for registration fees at a higher institution. His answer was simple, he did not have cash. I had no other option but to go out to look for jobs.

I started by been  nanny, to a cleaner, then a finance officer. all these years I never stop believing that I deserve more than what I had.I had a vision about my life, I knew where I want to be one day.Image

When I turned 28 years old I decided to go back to school and register at the University.I had to take difficult decision of leaving a comfortable job as a public servant, had to think about all my responsibilities(a 16 year old at High School, bills etc). Then again I kept on telling myself that in life we had to take risk.

Here I am now, at Varsity its difficult for a person my age but with all I’ve been through. its a peace of cake. No matter how old you are if you believe in yourself, understand your goal. You can achieve your dream just work hard and be willing to take risks.  Given the chance to live my life again I would, because I don’t regret any decisions I have taken in my life, and for every mistake I have made I have learned valuable lesson from it. My Motto is `Never let your circumstances define you`.

I would love to hear your stories, then we can inspire others.

love Cornie
